The backers
Private equity backed accounting firms in the UK, as announced
Updated
A private equity backer of a UK accountancy firm announces it on its own page or through its adviser. Three such announcements were read on 28 October 2026, and the audit rules decide how a backer can hold a firm that signs audits.

Why the structure matters for an audit arm
ICAEW says a majority stake is more than 50%, and some audit firms set higher thresholds in their governance, as much as 75% or even 100%. Under Schedule 10 to the Companies Act 2006 a controller is a person entitled to exercise 15% or more of the votes at general meetings. A private equity backer therefore typically holds the non-audit business while the audit firm stays majority-controlled by qualified persons; ICAEW's guidance on private equity investment in audit firms is where that is set out.
